Tallahassee-Leon County Continues to Inspire!

From John Lee Williams in 1823, to Comte de Castelnau in 1837-1838, to Sidney Lanier in 1875, early visitors have waxed eloquently about the scenery and culture of Tallahassee-Leon County.

Of choosing Tallahassee as Florida’s capital, Lanier concluded, “And surely no one with an eye either for agricultural advantages or for the more spiritual beauties of hill-curves and tree arabesques can do other than praise the happiness of their choice.” Tallahassee-Leon County has continued to inspire writers, poets, and songwriters whether they are visitors or residents, as evidenced by the samplings presented here for our Bicentennial.
