Governor’s Proclamation

A Tallahassee-Leon County Bicentennial Proclamation was issued by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the capital of the third largest state in the country.

Download in-depth historical articles by author Mary May, a sixth-generation Floridian and a native of Vernon, in Washington County. A resident of Tallahassee since 1967, May received a B.S. in Social Studies Education (1969) and an M.S. in Social Science (1972) from Florida State University. She taught at Rickards High School from 1970 to 1978, and at The Florida State University School (Florida High) from 1978 until retiring in 2000. May is a member of the Bicentennial History Task Force.
