GET INVOLVED

10 ways to get involved

We are at a unique moment in time to reflect on the City of Tallahassee and Leon County’s past 200 years, and more importantly, recognize and celebrate the potential for our next 100 years. Many organizations and individuals are joining in and finding new and existing ways to be part of the celebration and commemoration. Community service activations, city-wide celebrations, educational programs, year-long festivals, and events are already being planned and we want everyone to be involved, including you.

Monthly zoom meetings are held for community members to stay informed, get involved, hear what others are doing, get inspired, etc. The first zoom meeting will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 12-1 PM and then held on the third Tuesday every month from 12-1 PM through the end of the year. All meetings are held via the Zoom virtual platform.

In 2024, the community will be filled with all types of events, including parades, cultural activities, exhibitions, educational forums, concerts, etc. so why not plan one yourself involving your business, place of work, neighborhood, church, or school to commemorate or celebrate your story in the history of Tallahassee and declare your ambition for the future.

Family reunions are a great opportunity to share stories and pictures your family’s heritage and learn more about your personal connection to Tallahassee/Leon County’s rich history. Consider joining the Tallahassee Genealogical Society and/or a Tallahassee African American Genealogical Society to learn more as they have meetings scheduled throughout the year.

Utilize the Bicentennial as a time to enlighten yourself and/or your family about the community and encourage others to do the same by attending events, performances, seminars, educational forums, art exhibits, or speakers’ series; or take a tour of the many museums and historic sites in the area.

Invest in the future of Tallahassee/Leon County by planting a tree on your property or by planting a community garden and/or butterfly garden in your neighborhood or at your church or school commemorating the Bicentennial.
