Frenchtown Rising

Frenchtown Rising is held in the historic Frenchtown community on Macomb Street between Virginia and Georgia Street. It is a pep rally of sort with fun and games for families, food provided by local vendors, and live performances by international and national recording artists! These events also recognize Frenchtown’s notoriety as being Florida’s oldest predominately African American neighborhood. The great Ray Charles, Nat Adderley, and his brother Cannonball Adderly were known to have played in Frenchtown in their younger days. Frenchtown Rising events were held on Fridays before each FAMU home football game. The events occurred from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. The objectives of the events were four-fold:
1. Re-introduce the world to Frenchtown and its assets, including its human capital.
2. Promote the spirit of community unity and collaboration.
3. Encourage economic development, commerce, and business development in Frenchtown.
4. Reconnect Frenchtown to FAMU
We transformed Macomb Street between Virginia and Georgia Streets into an Entertainment and Business Venue. The venue attracted thousands of people over the four (4)-month period. The average attendance for each event was 14,650.Frenchtown Rising has historic ties to the Tallahassee community.
